A taste of Mexico straight from your kitchen

Today marks the celebration of National Guacamole Day…yes, there really is such a day. And I must say, whoever created such a day should be celebrated themselves…perhaps with copious amounts of guacamole?
I took it upon myself to find a recipe of this tangy, creamy, avocado-deliciousness in a bowl that anyone can create at home. Lucky for you, I found just the recipe.
I spoke to a seemingly guacamole-expert, a credited designer and creative-minded individual from LA, to get his secrets to a recipe learnt on his travels. I present to you… Authentic Oaxaca Mexican Guacamole (pronounced wa-ha-ka. Yes, I googled it)
Despite the fancy title, this guacamole is tantalisingly easy to make! Grab yourself 4 avocados (obviously). It’s 1-part lime to 4 avocados, so if you’re changing quantities then make sure to adjust accordingly.
Smash the avocado with a fork- I was told to not make it too creamy, but don’t leave the lumps too big. Squeeze in the lime juice- DON’T use lemons, people!! Think green machine. Sprinkle in salt to taste (I used Maldon salt because it made me feel fancy, but use what you’ve got if need be).
I then went a step further and chopped up some coriander (Cilantro in America. Once again, had to double check…oops) and added that in there for some added depth. If you like a kick, chop up 1/3 of a chilli and throw that in too!
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the art of the Oaxaca Guacamole! Make it, try it, make you friends try it…and if they don’t like guacamole then all I can recommend is…look for new friends. Happy Guac Day!
